Now that Twitter has (seemingly) kicked the bucket, we’re trying something new for our game day live coverage. Follow along in this post for tonight’s action!

The Chicago Red Stars (3-9-1) play San Diego Wave (6-5-2) in the first match without USWNT players.

Update: 6:46 PM

Tough news for Chicago before kickoff. They’ll be without the help of offensive spark plug, Ally Schlegel this evening.

Let’s go to our intrepid sideline photographer, Emily Anderson with her observations from warm-ups.


We’re off with the match! It’s a homecoming game for many former Red Stars, including Rachel Hill, Mackenzy Doniak, and longtime midfielder, Dani Colaprico



Rachel Hill breaks free for the first chance of the evening, but is called for offside


Bianca St. Georges centers the ball from the right wing spot, and Ava Cook sends it just wide.


Jaedyn Shaw with some fancy footwork in the Chicago penalty area, but Davidson and Krueger are able to tag team on a clearance.


Rachel Hill beats the keeper to a loose ball, but her shot rings off the woodwork.


Corner for SD Wave goes on frame, but Emily Boyd punches it away. Things getting busy in the Chicago end.


Ella Stevens finds Bianca St. Georges wide open, and BSG hits the post.


Casey Stoney sets down for just her second cooler sit of the evening.


Taylor Kornieck takes a gut check from Sam Fisher, and gathers her breath for a few moments before returning to play.


Ava Cook is issued a yellow card for her tackle on Taylor Kornieck. We'll see where this match-up takes us next half.


Makenzy Doniak appears to score after a really interesting build-up from San Diego off a free kick, but it’s called back for offside.

A VAR reversal of fortune, and a Stevens goal for the Chicago Red Stars takes them to the locker room with the lead at halftime!

a big chance for San Diego! Emily Boyd makes an acrobatic save, but loses the rebound. Roccaro and Fisher swoop in to save the day.


Sarah Griffith gets her first touches on goal since returning from injury. A pass from Stevens at the baseline deflects off a San Diego player, and gets just behind Griffith. She attempts to corral the ball, but she hits it over the net.


Jenna Bike subs on for Sarah Griffith, and immediately gets a scoring chance. Her shot deflects dangerously off a San Diego player, and goes just over the net.


Maddie Pogarch picks up a yellow card for San Diego.


TWO big chances for San Diego - A shot from Doniak, and a swing and a miss from Kornieck from the doorstep. Chicago holding on to the lead.


Bianca St. Georges with two great chances for the Red Stars. Could this be her revenge summer after being left off the Canada roster?


Emily Boyd with a brave charge, beats Jaedyn Shaw to a loose ball and clears it to safety.


Emily Boyd's attempt to clear the ball catches Kornieck square on the head. She's been on the receiving end of a lot of physical play tonight.
