The Chicago Stars announced a new signing as the secondary transfer window comes to a close. Colombian international striker Ivonne Chacón joins the club from Levante UD of Liga F. Julian Capera reported the transfer fee to be around €500,000, surpassing Mayra Ramirez’s record fee for a Colombian player just last year.
The Colombian has 8 caps with the national team. Her last call-up for country was during the 2023 World Cup.
Chacón scored 11 goals last season in 30 matches. She arrives in Chicago at a time when the club is in dire need of attacking depth.
The Stars struggled to score goals in the first half of the season, but the team’s started the second half undefeated thanks to Ludmila’s explosive offensive efforts. Chacón’s passing ability could allow for a dynamic goal-scoring tandem on the front line.
“Ivonne’s experience, combined with her speed, strength and nose for goal, paired with the incredible talent we already have on the roster, will add another level to our game,” said Stars GM Richard Feuz in the team’s press release. “We are incredibly excited to welcome Ivonne to the team and look forward to seeing her excel on the pitch.”
Chacón will join the team as soon as her visa is approved. “This is a new challenge in my career, and I am ready to give my best for the Chicago Stars and their fans,” said Chacón.
