Stars sign Jordyn Huitema

Canadian International joins on a three-year contract

By Lesley Ryder

The Chicago Stars signed Canadian forward Jordyn Huitema on a transfer from Seattle Reign FC in exchange for $300,000 in transfer funds, and $200,000 in allocation money. Her new contract will keep her in Chicago through the 2028 season. Huitema will be made available for selection in the Stars’ opening match on Sunday in Los Angeles.

Huitema joins an attacking line in rebuild mode with the departure of Ludmila and Ally Schlegel in the offseason. “Over the past few months, together with our coaching staff, we spent a lot of time identifying the right profile to strengthen our attacking line, and Jordyn quickly stood out. She brings valuable experience in the NWSL and internationally, including winning the Shield and competing in the playoffs, and we believe that will add another important layer to the group we’re building here,” said General Manager Richard Feuz in the team’s press release. “Equally as important, her qualities as a forward and the way she approaches the game fit naturally with the style head coach Martin Sjögren and his staff are implementing.”

At 5’11”, Jordyn Huitema comes into the Stars as a much-needed aerial threat after Ally Schlegel’s departure to North Carolina. Two of Huitema’s three goals last season came off her head. Her third goal? A worldie of a bicycle kick against the Chicago Stars that would have certainly been named goal of the week if not for Alyssa Naeher’s equalizer in the dying moments of the match.

The move to Chicago reunites Huitema with her Canadian teammate Julia Grosso. With World Cup qualifying on the horizon, both players will have an opportunity to strengthen their connection on the field, and lengthen their resumes for international roster selection.

“This is an exciting new beginning for me, and I’m eager to get started, embrace the challenge and give everything I can for the team and its supporters.” Huitema said in the Stars’ press release.

Before the transfer news dropped, Huitema penned a heartfelt farewell to Seattle on her Instagram page thanking her teammates and supporters over the past four years noting “While I’m starting a new chapter, I’ll always carry this city and this team with me.“

Jordyn Huitema has gone through a lot in the past few seasons. A spinal fracture sidelined her during the 2024 season, and in 2025 she went through a terrifying home invasion. She’s coming to Chicago at a time when they need someone to step up, and score goals. What better way to introduce yourself to a new city than on the score sheet?

The Chicago Stars will begin their season on the road against Angel City FC this Sunday, March 15th at 6PM Central time.
